Extremely Impressed With This Item – Black & Decker Lawn Edger Critique
I bought an extra blade expecting to tear up at least one blade trying to get the hang of it. Not necessary, I can’t imagine damaging the thick metal blade, that doesn’t need sharpening. We did find that when doing this, since you’re pushing the thing over sod and such, it will lift the entire machine up a little bit. So I set it for 1 1/4″ depth and did the first run, and then repeated it at the recommended 1″ depth to clean up the little bits that were left. Worked like a charm. Someone already mentioned NOT using this when the ground is really wet.
It gives a cleaner cut. It’s a Best buy! This machine tackles the tough Bermuda grass without a hiccup. Plenty of power at much less cost than gasoline models. Each time it performed really well. I did a test run of taking off the blade and replacing it as if it was this replacement blade that I ordered (but don’t yet need to install as the original is still plenty sharp).
Wish I bought sooner! I am very impressed with this product.
Better than anticipated. It cuts through sod with ease.
I hit a few, and it caused no problems! We now know we will be getting more use out of this tool in the future.
I read reviews on this particular Black and Decker model and it seemed to be the best for the price. After looking at area stores I found this one on Amazon for less money. I highly recommend the B&D Edge Hog. It’s easy to use.
Plus, my driveway seems to have sunk a bit, meaning my yard looks like it’s elevated an inch or two above the pavement. The Edge Hog was able to cut through both the grass and the soil and still made that little trench along the edge of the pavement.
It does this much faster than a string trimmer and the result is much cleaner. I’ve used the Edge Hog a few times when the grass has grown over the walk so much that the edger has to chew through half an inch or more of thatch. My husband (I’m the wife who’s writing the review) actually ran the edger and swept up the grass. I hadn’t edged my lawn the past two summers so the grass was really overgrown. This three-wheel model works great on straight-away edges, but is harder to use on curves. I discovered that if you tilt the edger slightly forward onto the single front wheel, you can get much better control, and the tight curves are much easier.
However, my husband insists on a gas edger at 4 times the price, so I gave it to a friend as a gift. BUDGET WINDSCREENS.
